When I was on retreat at the beginning of my journey on the Ignatian path, the spiritual director asked me to consider the question from Jesus, “But who do you say I am?” and to ask Him in conversation, as one friend speaks to another, “Who am I to You?” When I did, He simply replied “You are my Sunflower.” I don’t think I was very impressed – at that point I considered sunflowers to be so ordinary as to be almost weeds! The director gave me the above picture and the quote from Meister Eckhart in the tagline. As I have grown in the years since then, and I have come to know myself and God more deeply, sunflowers have become symbolic of my relationship with Him. More on this subject later, but I couldn’t really call my blog anything else.
